This unusual seven-piece orchestra offers music that is joyful, unconventional, generous, sensual, poetic and delightfully unhinged. Jungle Binche, their latest album, has just been released on IGLOO Records. It is a hug for dance, trance, for everyone, and for popular tradition. This sixth album is also the result of twenty-five years of exploration — a remarkable journey in itself. This long path has shaped an aesthetic that is recognisable from the very first notes.
The blend of generations also enriches the repertoire. Of course, the distinctive touch of the older musicians is still there, but the presence of the younger generation pushes the elephants into new territory, both in terms of composition and collective playing. Before becoming an orchestra, Rêve d’éléphant was a dance performance. From those origins, it has retained a deep-rooted love of rhythm and movement.
