BEAUTYSALON - Kapi Kapinga Grab
About
Across every continent, Afro beauty salons serve as safe spaces, forums, and places for sharing and debate.
In BEAUTYSALON, four Black women settle into their hair salon. As the haircuts take shape, each one tells stories – her own stories. Stories from Black Switzerland that explore identity, emancipation, racism and Eurocentric beauty standards.
Cheerful and off-the-cuff, the play touches on a key cultural marker for generations upon generations of Black women in Europe, offering a deep dive into another living narrative.
A Congolese woman based in Zurich since 2010, kapi kapinga grab is an author, artistic director and activist with a particular interest in issues relating to the decolonisation of knowledge and the representation of Black and racialised people.
